'Vast reach and triumphant execution' - North and South

Paul Little reviews Tangata Whenua in the March 2015 edition of North and South, observing: "It comes as a surprise to learn that this book was conceived only 'six years ago', so vast is its reach and triumphant its execution."

Little comments that the authors demonstrate "confidence and authority" in following the themes of migration, communality, mana and identity through each of book's three parts. He also praises the way this "landmark" publication "gives evidence from numerous sides when trying to establish details of such topics as the migration dates and sailing technology."

His conclusion? "Those who pick up the book expecting to dip into it might be surprised at how long they stay with it."
